EU-Myanmar Investment Protection Agreement
A local workshop on the upcoming EU-Myanmar Investment Protection Agreement, mandated by the European Commission, was held on 17 December 2015 at the Rose Garden Hotel in Yangon. The purpose of the workshop was to assess the potential economic, social, environmental and human rights impacts of the agreement and to explore broad stakeholder input. The Executive Director of EuroCham Myanmar made a presentation on the opportunities of the investment protection agreement emphasising the development potential through legal certainty for investments as well as potential benefits for specific sectors. Other speakers included representatives from NGOs, UMFCCI, legal firms, businesses and members of the European Commission negotiating team. The workshop was an interesting and necessary opportunity for stakeholders and affected communities to voice their opinion on the Investment Protection Agreement.
